WHAT'S UP and NEW

Continue.....2008 Mad Dawgs  Gearing Up!

As the Mad Dawg series prepares to begin its 3rd season, scheduled events  are evenly slated between Mooresville Dragway, as well as Farmington - with 3 races a piece planned for each track. The series begins May 3, with the Farmington Mad Dawg KickOFF.

The Mad Dawg series represents elapsed times in the 4-teens, with mph clockings in the 175 range. Diversity within the series is also popular with Mad Dawg. "We counted 18 different car makes, 13 different engine combos and 4 different transmissions last season", commented series promoter Mark Joyce. Joyce's first affiliation with Farmington dates back to 1976, and will return this season to oversee the weekly bracket program, as well as introduce Farmington to the Mad Dawg series.

Mark Joyce has also reported that a brand new class called "Badd 16 Doors" has been created. Badd 16 represents fast Top Sportsman-style racing, and will feature 3 "All Door Car" events as an added bonus to the Mad Dawg series. This door slammer lover's dream come true will begin with a stop in Mooresville on July 19 with the 2nd Annual DOORCARpalooza.

Farmington is the next stop featuring "Nuthin But Doors Nationals" on September 20. The Mad Dawg season winds down with a final stop in Mooresville on October 4, with the fall DOORfest. "The final race in Mooresville will be a Mad Dawg race within a race", explains Mark Joyce. The top 8 points contenders going into that race will "Battle for the Belt" during qualifying.

Several new cars are reportedly being brought out for this Top Sportsman-style "Badd 16" added feature, including the return of Jeff Rudisill, after a layoff that has stretched several years. Rudisill, the first man to break 200mph in an NHRA Top Sportsman car, has confirmed that he will debut an ex-Jerry Haas Pro Stock Camaro that he plans to complete in "Badd 16" competition.

Other big news for the Mad Dawg series, is the addition of bad man Darrin Hoyle, who has purchased Rickie Smith's Pro Stock Cobalt, with plans of racing in various heads-up leagues around the southeast, including Mad Dawg. Hoyle, a resident of Taylorsville, NC, is a multi-time champion within

Limited Street, and appeared on the cover of July's Drag Illustrated magazine.

Legendary Ford campaigner Jerry Williams also confirmed his planned participation in Mad Dawg this season. Todd Howard will be behind the wheel of Jerry Williams' 1998 Jerry Haas Ford Probe, motivated by Gene Fulton power. Both Howard and Williams are past Quick-8 Racers Association Champions, and are looking for a successful partnership this season in heads-up converter racing.

Mark Joyce is also excited about the "Hang 'em High" race on September 20th at Farmgington. "I saw this wheel-standing competition on the Speed Channel and thought that we needed something like that down south", says Joyce. For a complete Mad Dawg 2008 schedule and other news, you may
